The Crossmen: On the FieldPosted by Evie (Fairfax, United States) on 2 July 2007 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio. Best viewed on the "large" setting. I've just completed a week-long tour of duty on the food crew of my son's drum and bugle corps, The Crossmen. This is a Division I competitive corps. As the week goes on, I'll provide additional information about "drum corps" life. For starters, drum corps members in competing corps are high school and college students ranging in age from 14-21. When a member turns 22, he or she has "aged out" and must retire from competition. There are some non-competitive corps in which the retirees continue to participate. They march in parades and do other activities in their communities. This photo was made during last week's show in Erie, Pennsylvania. I stitched together three shots to get the panorama. Most of the corps members are visible in this shot.
