The Crossmen: On the Field AgainPosted by Evie (Fairfax, United States) on 10 July 2007 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio. This is my final photo of the drum corps/Crossmen series. The corps consists of three major sections: the color guard, which does visual interpretation; the percussion, which includes the "battery" (drum line) and the "pit" (mallet and really large or cumbersome instruments); and the "horn line," which is comprised of trumpets, mellophones, baritones and contra basses. This is the final year in which Division I corps are allowed to field 135 members. Starting in 2008, Division I corps will have 150 members. The size of each section varies across different corps. The styles of music are also varied. Each corps has its own unique character. If you have an opportunity to see a drum corps show, check it out. It's a great evening of entertainment.
